I hope that she is released alive and safe and that there will be a day when things like this dont happen. This sort of treatment is unjust and oppressive.
It blows my mind that Western feminism blatantly ignores her and the other women who are protesting actual oppression in the Middle East
Bitch who is ignoring her? Yall are just over here masturbating to the fact that this woman isn’t getting enough attention
American Conservatives are actually fairly invested in the idea that women in the North Africa Southwest Asia region are oppressed. Partly, it’s to justify imperialist policies and wars in the region. And the other part, on display here, is to denigrate feminism by saying that feminists are just whiny and entitled and don’t care about “true problems.”
I grew up in the Middle East. I was a teenager in Riyadh. I can assure you that is what made me a feminist today. I can also assure you that I have been called any number of personal insults, have had people attempt to dox me, and received dumbass online death threats over my stance on women’s rights and feminism. A stance I arrived at, mind you, by being forced to wear hijab from age 7 until age 21.
Oppression is a game to conservatives. Either you are not oppressed enough and therefore you are whining and entitled. Or you are too oppressed and your views and your trauma are dismissed as abnormal and antisocial. There’s no way to make conservatives happy about feminism and women’s rights, because the fact is that they are ideologically closer to the people who arrested this woman than the woman who risked her life protesting them.
