Females in Dhaka are guarded by teenage students after several girls were raped by officials of the Bangladeshi government for protesting against dangerous roads.

THIS! This is how change is made. Us women can only do so much, and have done alot, but real change with violence against women starts with the men and their attitude towards women. This is a perfect example. It’s a huge step in the right direction. ✊

Why is this not in the news.

From what I’ve seen news people trying to cover this have also been attacked by gov’t officials.

This reminds me of the time white protesters surrounded black protesters (in South Africa, I believe) to guard them from violence. I don’t remember the exact details, but I know they linked arms and made a shield sorta like the boys above.

THIS is how you use your privilege. THIS is how you be an ally.

honestly this play-pretend, ‘not everything is about genitals, maybe you should examine why you won’t have sex with someone who has a penis, genitals don’t matter’ charade is so ridiculous, and not only because sex DOES, by definition, have to involve genitals.

plenty of people refuse to date others for much more superficial details of their appearance, such as clothes, hair color, tattoos, etc, and you don’t see a political movement dedicated to painting it as ~problematic and exclusionary and a weaponizing of sexuality~ and sending those people death and rape threats

in fact the only people who ARE weaponizing sexuality here are men who think lesbians don’t have the right to make this supposedly insignificant decision

i also think its interesting the amount of guilt and shame the phrase “not everything is about genitals” is trying to inflict on us? its like… it took some of us (if not all of us) so long to realize we’re not attracted to the male anatomy, piv sex and penises in general (which already is a reason why we feel ashamed) just so we can get this bullshit fundamented with the “you should like people not genitals” kind of thing, making us look like we’re obsessed with anatomy like.. no. we’re just lesbians

It never occurs to them that lesbians don’t like them as people either
