If you look to the anime/nerd/cosplay communities, that’s where you see the most ~transbois~.

There’s a lot of different reasons why but I speculate that a HUGE reason why for a lot of girls I know to so vehimintly deny they are a woman, even if they fully present as a feminine girl, is because of the pressure to do porn.

This is something I don’t see talked about a lot but my blood is fucking boiling after getting another comment about how I’d make great cosplay porn. I’m sure if I suddenly identified as a man that wouldn’t be the case, I wouldn’t be the stereotypical pretty girl that they all WANT to see naked.

My first cosplay was when I was 14. I barely knew about porn and I happily went to a convention dressed up in a cosplay I MADE, because I wanted to meet more people with similar interests. By the time I was 16 I had normalized to myself the amount of constant requests I got for nudes. I would use my illegal age to justify not sending anything or posting anything like that.

Literally the SECOND I turned 18 I got three messages of men I knew begging for nudes/telling me I should post nudes publicly because “they saw how I was so self confident.”

I almost gave in I really did. Because I was constantly being told by predatory men about how it was empowering and my choice. It took me until I learned radical feminism, but I finally realized my not wanting to make porn or post nude pictures of myself for everyone to see was BEYOND NORMAL. I see my female friends who cosplay posting screenshots after screenshots of men who literally beg them for porn of them in cosplay and they just laugh about it and suggest people who do.

“Gamer girls” and “nerd girls” are depicted as a male “nerds” fantasy type and the reason you don’t see so many women as open about it is because the second they indulge in those interests, men act predatory.

Actually pretty true though. I remember that when I started cosplaying, girls had one of three options:

Hoochie

Waifu

Yaoi!boi

In short, you could be Morrigan with your tita and ass out, you could be Sailor Moon with your ass out, or you could be a boy and actually wear clothes.

And what’s worse? I started cosplaying in 2002. Which is about ten years before “cosplay is not consent” became a thing.

It was really, really bad. I’m not surprised so many of us cosplayed as men — it was the only way you could make it through a convention without getting perved on.

Yeah and when all the shows have the most developed characters as men, you relate to them, you cosplay as them, you rp as them. You realize all the interesting characters are men, the girls are cute but often sexualized and constantly dependant on men , fighting over boob sizes and looking like children. Then there’s yaoi and u all know how that is compared to hetero stuff. It’s easy to want to identify as a man instead ALL the time. It’s not uncommon for girls to become trans after cosplaying as men and being treated as the male characters.

Fandom space celebrates men and it’s so phallocentric it’s crazy once you step out of it. I can barely relate to any fandom girls anymore bc they’re so focused on the men only. They like the girls at best but just reblog cute stuff, don’t really invest in them as people
