You could ask any radical feminist (I am not one, by the way) and they will tell you virtually the same thing: that feminism is not about “equality between the sexes.” They will tell you that feminism is about women’s liberation. How this liberation is achieved and what it entails is not up to you, nor is it up to me or any other male for that matter.

“Men’s issues”, as you call them, exist but you have to look at who’s responsible for them: it’s not women. We’ve created a male hierarchy in which some men inevitably find themselves lower on the totem pole. It’s not pleasant but also certainly not surprising. The best way for us to tackle these issues is without disturbing women, in other words without interfering in feminism. Feminism exists as a reaction to our dominance and that’s pretty much the sole reason why we have no place in it. 

That being said, “gender roles” is a very superficial way of looking at things, considering that “gender” does not even exist. It implies that they hurt men just as much as women which is simply not true. The order of things still benefits us primarily. Women’s oppression has much more profound reasons than “gender roles.”

Gender/gender roles are a patriarchal idea men made up (and change to suit themselves) them to benefit themselves and exploit and abuse us. Feminists name it and are against it. Radical feminist reject gender/gender roles. Gender is not exactly a binary although gender divides things into ‘for women’ or ‘for men’ but it is actually a hierarchy. Which is why we refer to society and it’s institutions as patriarchy. It doesn’t matter what women and men do men are still privileged and women are oppressed (all over the world).

We don’t want ‘equality‘ because men define equality. If we say the problem is over when it is not over, things get worse for women. If we use the ‘equality’ model we can’t actually say or do anything about anything and it does not actually achieve our goals. Men keep saying we have already achieved equality. They say this despite the obvious fact we are not equal to men even if the law says so. We want liberation for women end of misogyny sexism and male violence in all its forms. We don’t want pathetic reforms that men can revoke. Women’s progress is not linear if you look at women’s history you will see this. Men own the law and basically everything and women don’t need men telling us how to live. Men however need to sort their shit out and listen to women and compromise with us.
