everyone should reblog this with the only personality assessment that matters: your favorite disney princess, favorite color, favorite superhero, and favorite season
Her story goes mostly how the Disney version went, except she didn’t go to war as a quest for self-discovery or because she felt as though she couldn’t make her parents proud. The sole and only reason she disguised herself as a young man was to take her Father’s place in the war.
So when she told her parents that she wanted to this, they were like wtf no you’re a girl and it’s chaotic out there. And you know what she did? She put on male clothes and challenged her own Father to a duel. Her dad was like ‘who the hell are you’ but accepted. When Mulan won and revealed herself as his daughter, he was like wOAH okay you can go. Basically she made sure to get her parent’s consent before going, so not only are her parents awesome, she was decent enough to not leave them hanging for 12 years.
Yes, she was at war for 12 years, but she not in fact meet a handsome general. Instead she BECAME a general. Eventually the war was won, and the Emperor was so impressed by her he wanted to wed the Princess to her. It was only then that she revealed she was in fact a woman. Then she accepted the rewards and went right back home to her normal life.
There is now even a crater on Venus named after her.
Zoe Kravitz may be rising Hollywood’s ranks after roles in blockbusters X-Men: First Class and Mad Max: Fury Road, but the US actress recently revealed the disturbing reason why fans do not see her in The Dark Knight Rises.
The 26-year-old daughter of musician Lenny Kravitz and actress Lisa Bonet was blocked from Christopher Nolan’s box office hit because filmmakers were not wanting to “go urban” with their casting.
“In the last Batman movie [The Dark Knight Rises], they told me that I couldn’t get an audition for a small role they were casting because they weren’t ‘going urban’,” she told Nylon.
“It was like, ‘What does that have to do with anything?’ I have to play the role like, ‘Yo, what’s up Batman? What’s going on wit chu?’”
Kravitz, who is of Dominican and Jewish-American ethnicity, declined to mention which role she wanted, but as female parts were limited in The Dark Knight Rises, it would likely have been the role of Catwoman’s pickpocketing roommate Jen, which the blonde, fair-skinned Juno Temple won.
This year’s Oscar nominations were the least diverse since 1995, with not a single black, Asian or minority ethnic actor nominated across the four major acting catergories.
Such is the expectation of further “whitewashing” that Disney fans are already protesting against a white Mulan in the studio’s planned live action remake, before casting has even been considered.
Then there is Bradley Cooper’s upcoming comedy Aloha, which was recently met with allegations of racism from the people of Hawaii after mostly white actors were employed instead of natives.
Recent research found that just 11 per cent of all female character last year were African-American, while only 4 per cent were Asian or Latina.
More people need to get behind the genderfluid Mulan headcanon
;-; please no
Mulan is trans
translation: “strong women don’t exist. if they’re not weak and submissive, they’re not really women.” asshole.
Shortly after starting T, I caught Hell for for saying Mulan only bound her boobs because she was pretending to be a man in order to join the Army. She only even did so in the first place to take her father’s slot. If he were younger or able bodied, she’d have just stayed home. Mulan is a badass woman.
Get. Over. It.
Hi! Chinese American here!
FUCK YOU. You’re not even Chinese. This is not your legend, culture, or history to reclaim.
Fa Mulan (花木蘭) is a woman warrior. The original ballad was about Mulan worrying about her old, frail father joining in the army, and out of filial piety, took his place to save him, and serve her country. We all look up to her for loving and serving her family so much. We all look up to the story for proving that women are just as strong and capable as men, in a culture that unfortunately have a long, long history of preferring sons over daughters, to the point that daughters can be killed the moment they are born.
Fu Mulan is our heroine. She is my heroine, my inspiration throughout the years I was mistreated by my sexist paternal side of the family for being born a girl. The ‘proof’ that son preference was bullshit and I was worth something.
You don’t know shit about the Ballad of Mulan. In the ending, after the war, she returns home because she missed it dearly. She puts on her old clothing, and when her comrades came to see her, they were surprised she was a woman.
The ending, the most important ending: It brings up the metaphor of two rabbits, side by side on a hill, one male and one female, and yet you can’t tell them apart.
Are they not both rabbits? Are they not both equal?
There have always been female fighters, female warriors in Chinese folklore and fiction. YOU DO NOT GET TO ERASE THEM. ESPECIALLY SINCE YOU AREN’T EVEN CHINESE. Do you not see how racist that is of you?
