Amnesty International has put forth a proposal, a breathtaking example of the Newspeak liberals use to obfuscate the reality of global commercial exploitation of women and children by men for paid rape:

-pimps and brothel owners are merely involved in the ‘operational aspects of sex work’.

-The 90+% of women in the trade who say they want out immediately but lack the means are ‘some individuals’.

-The ‘Nordic model’, which criminalizes men who prostitute women and who pay to rape prostituted women (thereby axing demand), is ‘overbroad criminalisation of the operational aspects of sex work’

-Yes, this policy approach, which decriminalizes prostituted women and emphasizes robust funding to help women exit is apparently ‘indirect criminalization of sex workers’.

But nothing in the policy truly addresses the reality of prostitution – it naively assumes that decriminalisation of sex work will succeed in reducing the many harms of prostitution, including the violence and degradation suffered by prostitutes on a daily basis worldwide, and that sex work will henceforth be entirely legitimate. And it makes these assumptions contrary to available evidence in jurisdictions adopting the decriminalised model.

For example, local government authorities in NSW – where prostitution is decriminalised – are struggling to keep up with the regulatory burden imposed on them by a state government that has abdicated any responsibility for the sex trade. Recently, a Sydney council was forced to employ an undercover investigator to enter a local ‘massage parlour’ and avail himself of the services on offer in order to testify that an illegal brothel was being conducted on the premises. Unbelievably, the court ruled that one instance of sex on the premises did not a brothel make, meaning the council needs to send several investigators to the premises at one time to make their case.“

this is a great response/ breakdown of their proposal

There’s no such thing as SWERFS. Us radfems simply think that there is no such think as consent when money is involved and that most women don’t go into sex work because of choice, but because of the patriarchal capitalist system. We support sex workers. We don’t support Johns. It’s really not a difficult concept.

scaredradfem:

kinkysidhe:

misandry-mermaid:

If a sex worker can tell you in their own words that they consent to have sex for money and you, a third party who is not involved in this transaction, denies that they can consent, you are infantilizing them and denying their basic autonomy.  It’s not that difficult of a concept.

You radfems are running out of bullshit excuses to use to cover up your whorephobia. Newsflash: If you work for money so you can eat and pay your bills and go to school, you are participating in capitalism. No matter how you look at it, we are all participating in capitalism in some way. More likely than not, you are using a computer or other device that was sold to you for a profit. Capitalism. Capitalism. Capitalism. Money makes the world go round. Is that a fucked up concept, especially when it comes to basic survival? Absolutely.

But until the day when you radfems can somehow completely eradicate the patriarchy and capitalism, it is something we all have to live with whether we want to or not.

And nobody wants to work. Nobody. People everywhere are FORCED into work. It’s not just sex workers. It doesn’t matter if you’re working retail or if you’re a neurosurgeon. We would all rather be home in our pajamas watching Netflix. But we have to compromise in order to be able to have pajamas in the first place. Some people are born fortunate enough to be able to successfully and safely navigate through the system and come out relatively happy with what they’re doing. Some people, however, are not so fortunate. Some people are born into deep-rooted classism, racism, ableism, etc., that make it nearly impossible for them to work a living wage in a patriarchal capitalist society that will allow a person who works for 40 hours a week to make a salary that they cannot even live on.

So, really, it doesn’t matter if a sex worker is doing sex work because of circumstance or because of choice. If somebody is providing a service for money, they are consenting to the act under that circumstance. Let’s not put sex up on a pedestal. It’s truly not a “holy, sacred act” for a lot of people. It’s a way to put food on the table. It’s a way for them to feed their children. It’s a way for them to be able to live and criminalizing clients will only make it more dangerous. Decriminalization is the only way to go if you truly want to keep sex workers safe. Anything other than that is whorephobic and misogynistic.

And to think that radfems are about destroying the patriarchy… The concept of denying a person bodily autonomy and pressing your own ignorant, narrow-minded ideals on them sounds exactly like what the patriarchy wants you to do.

But legalisation doesn’t keep the women safe. It makes it easier for women to be trafficked into the industry. Seriously, look it up. The Netherlands’ experiment has NOT worked, whereas the Nordic model does as it criminalises the men who think you can buy a person, but also helps women exit the industry, which the vast majority do want to do.

Money makes consent conditional. If the woman would not have sex with the john without money changing hands, but says yes when money is involved, that is not true consent. I and other radfems support women in the industry, those that want to be there and the majority that do not, but we criticise the johns who think sex and consent can be bought and sold, and that women and our bodies are commodities.

Also the fact that you use the term “whorephobic” is disgusting as whore is a misogynistic slur. You clearly don’t actually care about women if you use a slur against them.

How is that so hard to understand?

re-interpellated:

deepgreenresistance:

A study commissioned by Norway’s government shows that criminalizing the purchase of sex has DECREASED trafficking and has NOT caused violence against women to increase, as some have claimed. Men who pay to sexually abuse or otherwise use women, also known as “johns,” have been criminalized in Norway since 2009, following in Sweden’s footsteps.

Opponents of the Nordic model like to say that criminalizing the purchase of sex will make it more dangerous and push the trade “underground” – despite the fact that there is zero evidence to back up these claims and that, in truth, the illegal sex trade thrives under legalization. This myth persists, thanks to this oft-repeated misinformation.

The study is timely as the Canadian government has recently put forward a bill that, if passed (which it most-likely will), will target demand – and criminalize pimps and johns.

Deep Green Resistance is a radical /roots-oriented feminist organization. Men – as a class – are waging a war against women. Rape, battering, incest, prostitution, pornography, poverty, and gynocide are both the main weapons in this war and the conditions that create the sex-class women. The freedom of women as a class cannot be separated from the resistance to the dominant culture as a whole.

I would light johns, pimps, and traffickers on fire if I could, but this is the next best thing.

Criminalise sex traffickers, pimps and johns. Women deserve much better than prostitution.

Dear Standing Committee,

My name is Angel Wolfe. My birth moms name is Brenda Wolfe. My mom was murdered by Robert Pickton. Her murder was one of the first six he he was charged with. I was 6 years old when she was murdered and 9 years old when her jawbone was found in a pig trough. I am one of 98 orphans that were left behind because of this monster. I do not blame VDP and the RCMP.

I believe Bill C-36 will protect vulnerable women like my mom. I am sickened that my moms death is being used to legalize such an indignity and sadness. I am also sickened by the term “Pickton bill” It is insulting and a slap in the face to the 98 orphans, and organizations like “Maggies” and the pro-prostitution lobby should feel very ashamed for speaking on the behalf of the familes who have lost their loved ones.

I blame prostitution and drug addiction for my mothers death. On behalf of the orphans, we do not want our mothers death to be the reason prostitution is legitimized. I also want to make it my mission in life to educate people about addiction, prostitution and the missing and murdered.

Sincerely,

Angel Wolfe

When the pimp lobby and their liberal feminist defenders demand that we listen to ‘sex workers’ (their rhetoric for prostituted women and girls), who they mean is a handful of mostly white, middle-to-upper class women who are in the mere ELEVEN percent of prostitutes who say they DON’T want out immediately.
