This needs to be boosted. Black women are ignored and silenced in many areas but it is really a problem when it comes to victimization in sexual assault. The “strong black woman” trope allows black women to be ignored when it comes to aid and care. They need us fam. Black women aren’t superheroes, they aren’t magic, they are human beings, and need help and respect. Stop sexual assaults and help the black woman!
The sentence you decide today can tell Bryce Walker what he did was wrong. It can say that to every boy, every man who behaves like he does. And it can say to victims like me that our story matters.

Unfortunately, as much as I want this to be “fake news”, it’s not.
I have absolutely no idea how throwing the victim in jail is “keeping the rapist off the streets”…. Maybe PTSD doesn’t exist in this attorney’s world. Let’s also not forget that this idea was suggested in Texas and it resulted in an attempted suicide right out of the courtrooms. Rape culture is starting to get worse in America. WE CANNOT LET THIS HAPPEN

there was a rape case in germany where the court decided it was a false accusation and the victim had to pay a fine despite there being a video of two guys having sex with her and her repeatedly saying no and stop.
If you want more women to testify make it not so damn hard and dangerous maybe?
Victims can be compelled to testify and can be jailed if they don’t. I served on a jury in a case where the victim did not want to testify. As a result, his testimony was such a mess we really didn’t have any choice but to acquit.
I don’t see the usefulness of this in a rape case where the victim really needs to be present, composed, and cooperative to give testimony that the jury will take seriously. It seems like this DA doesn’t want more rape convictions so much as he wants to check off his “I tried” requirements.
There was a serial rapist in this area and when he raped a young woman who was barely keeping her life together she was not a good witness. They decided to charge her with false reporting. Fined her and put her in jail. The following year when they finally caught the serial rapist with the evidence that she had indeed been a victim the cops said sorry but they were adamant they had done nothing wrong. The taxpayer footed the bill, not the effing misogynist asshat cops. You would think they could learn, but less than a year later in the next jurisdiction they repeated the same injustice to another rape victim. It is almost as if the cops don’t like women or just can’t relate to crime victims.
