One of the most unsettling aspects of what’s happening now is the people who refer to the woman who was atracked only as “the Terf,” i.e. “the terf threw the first punch,” “the terf had it coming,” “the terf was misgendering people.” The word is used to dehumanize her and justify violence against her. If it’s not a slur itself, it’s serving the same function.
