I mean, I think women “of a certain age” are badasses on a grand scale.

I’d love to hear their stories, what a good idea. We could all ask our mums, aunties and grannies about their experiences.

How did they react to no-fault divorce? What was Roe v Wade like? Do they recall the first time they were harassed? How did they react?
Etc.

We could give them that platform, and I think that’d be awesome.

YES OMG! I’m so glad you’re down for this!!! My grandma is an immigrant from mexico and is so wonderful to talk to and i have some old pictures of my great grandma and aunts (all from mexico) and their experiences, as well as my beautiful mother. I wish we all had a place where we could chat about this! i was actually working on a project similar to this but i didn’t have any help so i didn’t know how to go about it bc i’ve never done anything like that. 

My grandma was also raised Catholic so she’s REALLY familiar with all the types of abuse in the catholic church and growing up as a woman in central Mexico. Sorry I’m ranting but i’m so excite! those are such awesome questions too!!

Let’s talk about all the *little* women’s spaces we carve out, the Saturday morning knitting circles, the kaffe klatches, the kitchen after dinner doing dishes with our aunties and grannies.

Let’s talk about the ways we can encourage girls to be strong and comfortable in their own skins.

Let’s talk about women’s land and how we can support it.

Let’s talk about blood and cramps and hot flashes and the weird in-between feeling of peri menopause when you still bleed, but now you also get night sweats, hot flashes, and so forth.

Let’s talk about our lives – with partners and without, with children and without, careers, tea, coffee, knitting, crochet, cats, dogs, machinery, eco feminism, exercise, women’s music, our Omas, and Grannies, and so on. Let’s talk about the women who gave of themselves for us, teachers and librarians, and crones in our communities. Talk about how strong our foremothers’ arms were, and how they kept space for us as best they could in a broken world.

Let’s pass the Bechtel test. Let’s show how our lives leave the Mako Mori test in the dust. And I propose doing it before Michfest. Let’s get this rig in GEAR!

Girls and women have Stories, and so many don’t get told. I want us to tell our stories and I want to have a tag for it.

But seriously, I love the idea of setting up a hashtag for our stories–if we all told ours, and asked our elders to tell theirs. I think we could do some substantive good.
